The Disability Assistance Grant, managed by the Ministry of Social Development and Family Services, is designed to help citizens and legal residents who cannot earn an income due to a permanent disability. This grant ensures financial security for both adults and children with disabilities, easing the burden on individuals and caregivers.
For Adults
Age: Must be 18 years or older
Residency: Must have lived in Trinidad & Tobago for at least 3 years prior to applying (with absences not exceeding 6 months)
Income Limit: Must not exceed $12,000 per year
Disability: Must be certified as permanently disabled and unable to work
For Children
Age: Must be under the 18 years or older
Residency: Be residing permanently in Trinidad & Tobago
Income Limit: If the child is already receiving another monthly benefit over $1,500, they do not qualify for this grant.
Parent/Guardian must be: A citizen or legal resident of Trinidad & Tobago

Simple Steps to receive the Disability Assistance Grant
For Adults
Step 1: Obtain the Application & Medical Report Form
Visit your Local Board Office to collect the forms.
Step 2: Medical Assessment
A Government Medical Officer must complete the Medical Report.
Step 3: Attend a Disability Assessment
Applicants may need to meet with the Local Public Assistance Board for verification.
Step 4: Submit Required Documents
National ID & Birth Certificate
Bank Passbook/Statement
Marriage Certificate (if applicable)
Medical Report from a Government Officer
Step 5: Application Review & Decision
The Assistance Board will assess eligibility. If rejected, applicants have the right to appeal.
For Children
Step 1: Obtain a Medical Form
Available at Local Board Offices, Health Centres, ttconnect Service Centres, and online at www.social.gov.tt
Step 2: Medical Examination
A Pediatrician or Certified Medical Practitioner must assess the child’s disability.
Step 3: Complete & Submit the Application
Attach required documents and return to the nearest Local Board Office
Step 4: Receive Confirmation & Payments
Existing recipients do not need to reapply; payments are automatic.
